KIM CHIU is Kimberly Sue Yao Chiu in real life and was born on April 19. 1990 in Tacloban City, Leyte, Philippines (although the Internet Movie Database website claims she was born in Xiamen, Fujian Province in People's Repubilc of China). At the age of 3, Kim Chiu's family migrated to Cebu and decided to live there when their business started to blossom.
Kim entered the showbiz scene with her participation in the reality show "Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition" in ABS-CBN. She was an early favorite and she emerged as the big winner at the culmination of the show. Kim Chiu can be best remembered inside the house of Big Brother with her rendition of the Chinese song titled "Peng You" by Emil Chau. Her popularity inside the house made her an instant celebrity that even when the show was finished, Kim was immediately signed by ABS-CBN together with her housemate Gerald Anderson which later become her love team.
After her stint in Big Brother's house, Kim was added to the list of able hosts in ASAP. She was then casted in "Star Magic Presents: Ang Lovely Kong All Around", "Maalaala Mo Kaya: Bus", "Your Song: Alive", "Aalog-Alog" and three installments of "Love Spell: My Boy My Girl, Charm And Crystal and Pasko Na Sinta Ko". Gerald Anderson was her love interest/partner in all of those afformentioned TV assginments.
Kim Chiu's biggest break in TV was "Sana Maulit Muli" where she and Gerald played the lead role in primetime. The series topped the TV ratings during its airtime and the Gerald - Kim tandem became more popular and was able to get more and more followings. After the series, Kim appeared in various Kapamilya shows such as Gokada Go!, Your song Presents, Love Spell, Sineserye Presents, Maalaala Mo Kaya and others.
Her next big project was a Philippine TV remake of the popular Koreanovela "My Girl" which again topped the charts in primetime. Kim showed her versatility in this series when she showed her acting ability in comedy. Her performance was so superb that she won the 2008 Pop Viewer's Choice Award: Pop TV Character of The Year for her portrayal with the character of Jasmine Estocapio.
With the success of her previous TV series, the Kapamilya network again produced another primetime series for her titled "Tayong Dalawa" with Gerald and Jake Cuenca. This is the second time Kim Chiu worked with Gerald and Jake since "Sana Maulit Muli". "Tayong Dalawa" had it's storyline rewritten a lot of times due to its overwhelming success in the ratings nationwide.
The series received a citation no less than from the Armed Force of the Philippines for promoting a positive image of the military. It was also reported that the show was credited by the Philippine Military Academy for the increase of enrollees in their rooster by 300%. The show and the cast won TV awrds form various bodies like Best Drama Series from Catholic Mass Media Awards, Best Actor in a Drama Series (for Coco Martin) in the Star Awards for Television, Best Television Drama Series in the 8th Gawad Tanglaw Awards and Gandingan Awards and Best Actress in a Daily Soap Opera for Kim chiu in the 6th USTv Awards.
After the strong performance of "Tayong Dalawa" in the ratings game, Kim Chiu apeared in "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo" as Gwen Crisanto. The series is part of ABS-CBN's 60th Year of Pinoy Soap Opera Celebration. The series also featured a powerhouse cast Kris Aquino, Gerald Anderson, Gabby Concepcion, Albert Martinez, Jacklyn Jose and many more.
It was reported that the series garnered 34.4% in the ratings board during its premier in the Mega Manila area beating the rival program "The Last Prince" of GMA-7. You can watch here the full trailer of "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo".
After the series, Kim appeared in different shows in ABS-CBN like "Maalaala Mo Kaya" in the episode "Bimpo" as Joy. Then some various roles in the gag show "Banana Split". She would then be paired with Ai-Ai delas Alas in the musical anthology program "Your Song Presents:" in the episode "Maling Akala". She would exchange some comic dialogues with Ai-Ai in the said program.
Came next is the adventure/fantasy program in the "Wansapanataym" anthology of ABS-CBn in the episode "Super Kikay and Her Flying Pagong". She played here as a simple girl with a superpower given by a turtle. She would fly the neighborhood and patrol the community for troublemakers.
Kim aso appeared in top rating talent show "Showtime" as guest host. Also, she guested in "Gandang Gabi, Vice!" and "I Dare You" as challenger. She would then go back to "Maalaala Mo Kaya" in the episode "Kape" in the lead role as Apple Santiago.
"My Binondo Girl" is the last big project of Kim Chiu in 2011. The series started shooting in the month of April in different locations in Binondo, Manila and Hongkong. Kim had three leading men in the series namely Jojo Revilla, Xian Lim and Matteo Guidicelli. It was in this series that started the love team Kim Chiu - Xian Lim tandem. The series was also a top rater and Kim even received the award "Pop Kapamilya TV Character" in the 2011 ASAP Pop Viewer's Choice Awards for her portrayal in the character of Jade and Yuan.
2012 would also be a great year for Kim Chiu with "Babalik Kang Muli" is already in the shelves for her.
Kim is also scheduled in "Sineserye Presents: Dahil Mahal Kita: The Dolzura Cortez Story" that is to be shown in 2010.
Kim Chiu appeared in her first movie "First Day High" which is a comedy-mystery film with Gerald Anderson, Geoff Eigenmann and Maja Salvador under Star Cinema. This was followed by "I've Fallen For You" in which the Kimerald (Kim - Gerald) tandem was tested in the box office. The success of the movie was huge as the movie was supported by millions of Kimerald fans.
Kim and Gerald then starred in the "Class Picture" episode of Regal Entertainment's "Shake, Rattle & Roll X" which was included in the Metro Manila Film Festival. This time, the dou proved their acting ability in horror films and many movie critics applauded their performance in the said movie.
Kim Chiu will also star in two movies for 2009 titled "I Love You Goodbye" and "Mano Po 6: My Mother".
